JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng has called on law enforcement agencies to find other perpetrators linked to the torching of a Home Affairs building in Germiston.

On Tuesday, the building was engulfed in flames after angry residents threw a petrol bomb at the structure.

No deaths were reported and the department said it was able to redeem some IDs and passports from the fire.

A group of residents took to the streets, claiming they were unlawfully being removed from their homes.

The ANC said that the residents had no right to take out their frustrations on public infrastructure.

"We caution everyone that irrespective of their own frustrations, at no point must they damage, vandalise, or burn public infrastructure, for this infrastructure is part of service delivery aimed at helping the people," said spokesperson Jongizizwe Dlabathu.
