Al Jazeera reporter Anas al-Sharif and four other journalists were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Sunday.
According to the International Federation of Journalists, more than 270 journalists and media workers have been killed since Israel declared war on Hamas in Gaza.
Activist and writer, Iman Zanele Omar, said the killing of journalists silenced the voice for the voiceless.
"This is one of the first live-streamed genocides that we've seen in our lifetime. I think that the fact that journalists were able to utilise social media and we have so much access, it has opened people's eyes on a global sense."
