Limpopo police said that 11 inmates were in the vehicle and they were being transported from the Mokopane Police Station to court.

JOHANNESBURG - One police officer and five inmates died in an accident while traveling to Naboomspruit in Limpopo. 

Provincial police said that 11 inmates were in the vehicle and they were being transported from the Mokopane Police Station to court.

The rest of the inmates were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba: "Seven inmates were injured and transported to hospital to receive medical attention. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of both the officer and the inmates."
