Another assault rifle has been removed from the streets of Cape Town.
The Hawks and Anti-Gang Unit confiscated an AK-47 rifle in Manenberg.
After receiving a tip-off, they searched a premises on Joseph Street on Wednesday, where they found the weapon.
A 61-year-old man was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm.
In August, police confiscated two AK-47s in Gugulethu and another six in Bellville.
Hawks Spokesperson Siyabulela Vukubi said that the suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate's court on Friday.
“The team swiftly acted on information regarding an AK-47 assault rifle. The information was immediately operationalized and upon searching the premises, an AK-47 assault rifle was found. The suspect was arrested as he could not account for the possession thereof.”
