Family of man allegedly murdered by girlfriend says unaware couple had problems

The family of a Johannesburg man, alleged to have been murdered by his girlfriend, says they were unaware that the couple had problems.

The man's uncle, Jacob Ntsanwisi, said that the pair were together for over two years and seemed happy.

The woman was arrested last week, after being found with the deceased lying next to her in a Midrand apartment.

Ntsanwisi said that he had seen his nephew with his girlfriend on several occasions, and even when there were disputes, they would resolve them.

He said that the family was surprised to hear that she is suspected of being responsible for his murder.

The woman made a brief appearance in court on Wednesday, where the man's family and community members from his hometown in Limpopo protested, calling for no bail.

"As a family, we are saddened by how we lost our brother. We are trying by all means to keep up, but it's so sad. We are so heartbroken."

The matter was postponed to Friday.
