CAPE TOWN - Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) CEO, Busi Mavuso, said she’s satisfied with the progress in some of the government’s governance and economic reforms.

But Mavuso is still concerned about the slow pace of reforms in some sectors like transport and logistics, adding that targets set by Transnet may not be achievable.

Mavuso was speaking at the BLSA’s launch of its government reform tracker in Cape Town on Friday.

Busi Mavuso said to arrest the economic decay caused by years of state capture, the country had to come up with a plan to help grow the economy and attract investment.

She said their tracker will go a long way in monitoring progress in key areas like criminal justice, governance and economic reform.

Other reforms include addressing energy security as well as a new visa regime to attract investment.

"I really think that we have come a long way. I am satisfied with where some of the reforms are. There are some of the reforms that have received better impetus."

On energy reforms, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde noted how load shedding is being addressed but he said there’s been a general lack of urgency in turning things around.
