Limpopo police probing cause of crash that killed 1 officer and 6 inmates

JOHANNESBURG - Limpopo police are investigating the cause of the crash that claimed the lives of one officer and six inmates.

On Thursday, the police van, which was travelling to the Naboomspruit court, collided with a heavy vehicle.

Five of the inmates who were awaiting trial died on scene, and one succumbed to injuries at hospital.

"The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation, and we urge all parties involved to exercise caution and patience as the investigation unfolds," said the provincial transport and community safety’s spokesperson, Tshifhiwa Dali.

"[As] the Department of Transport and Community Safety, we will continue to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to ensure that our roads are safe for all users."
