Death count in crash involving cops' van transporting inmates and truck rises

JOHANNESBURG - The death toll from an accident involving a police van transporting inmates and a truck has risen to nine.
Two more inmates who were admitted to hospital following the collision on Thursday succumbed to their injuries on Friday.
The police van was travelling to Naboomspruit Court when it collided with a heavy-duty Vehicle.
Limpopo police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba said the remaining injured inmates are still receiving medical treatment
“The provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo - Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, once again conveyed condolences to all affected families, whilst wishing the injured inmates a speedy recovery.”
Mashaba added that police are investigating the cause of the crash.
“The provincial commissioner has also reiterated SAPS’ [South African Police Service] commitment to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident that led to the fatalities.”
