Members of Parliament's Ad Hoc committee looking into allegations of police corruption want action to be taken against forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan for threatening a key witness.
O'Sullivan angered MPs after he sent a threatening text message to Minister Senzo Mchunu's chief of staff, Cedric Nkabinde, on Wednesday night during his testimony.
The message came after Nkabinde's testimony implicating O'Sullivan in alleged police interference and yielding a lot of influence in the country's top law enforcement agencies.
Nkabinde read the message out to the committee.
“I received this message from Paul O'Sullivan: ‘Get ready you lying crook. I'm going to make sure you spend some years in prison. You were bribed by Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Mabula. Now you will pay for your crimes guaranteed’.”
African National Congress (ANC) MP Xola Nqola and other members said the matter must be looked into by Parliament's legal services and O'Sullivan must be called before the committee urgently.
“It is important to put it out there that we play a responsibility to protect witnesses that are assisting the work of this committee. We won't tolerate or stomach any form of intimidation if it comes out of a testimony that has been given.”
