CAPE TOWN - The State has asked the Western Cape High Court to impose life sentences on the three men convicted of killing a woman outside the Wynberg Magistrate's Court in 2023.
Mandisi Mofu was found guilty of Christine Gumira's murder, the attempted murder of Thandi Viljoen, who was caught in the crossfire, and the possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
Lukhanyo Mene and Vuminkosi Vumani were found guilty of helping Mofu to kill Gumira by pointing her out to him.
Mofu, Lukhanyo Mene, and Vuminkosi Vumani appeared before Western Cape High Court Judge Andre Le Grange on Monday to ask for lesser sentences.

However, the prosecution has asked for life sentences to be imposed on all three men for their involvement in the murder of Gumira.
The State believes this will send a strong message and deter others from committing such crimes.
The prosecution added that the trio did not provide any compelling circumstances for the court to deviate from the prescribed sentences of life imprisonment for murder.
Sentences will be handed down on Thursday.
