CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town is encouraging residents to weigh in on its updated traffic calming policies.
The strategy is aimed at reducing vehicle speeds and volumes by implementing speed bumps and raised pedestrian crossings.
The city said the demand for road calming measures is greater than the flexibility the current policy allows for.
And input from communities will allow the city to cover more areas. The window for public comment closes on 13 September 2025.
The MMC for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, said the updated policy will pave the way for safer roads in the City.
“The demand by communities, ward councillors and society in general is for that intervention in terms of some form of infrastructure to curb poor driver behaviour, and this policy allows for quicker mechanisms in which to study these, approve these and instil them," said Quintas.
