JOHANNESBURG - The lawyer for the fourth accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has argued that one of the State’s key witnesses clearly had an axe to grind with the accused.
Mthokoziseni Maphisa is the only accused who has brought a section 174 discharge application.
Maphisa is one of four men accused of the football star’s 2014 murder.
His lawyer, Advocate Zithulele Nxumalo, addressed the court on what he deems are discrepancies in the State’s case.
He claims the evidence by Constable Sizwe Zungu, who claims to have seen the accused in Vosloorus on the day of Meyiwa’s murder, has inconsistencies.

We are back in the PTA high court and accused #4 is the only accused bringing a Section 174 discharge application.
This application is brought when the defense believes the state has failed to present enough evidence for a conviction. @ewnreporter pic.twitter.com/wAcxD9bLw0
