JOHANNESBURG - For the next two weeks, Tembisa residents can get dental, optometry and general health services, all on a train.
The mobile clinic offers dental care for just R10, including cleanings, extractions and fillings, with medication available for only R5.
Residents can also access optometry, psychology, and general health check-ups, making healthcare more accessible to those who need it most.
The 19-coach Phelophepa train, operated by the Transnet Foundation, had previously been stationed in Olifantsfontein, but now rolls into Tembisa, bringing quality healthcare straight to the community, all on track.
Staffed by doctors, nurses, dentists, optometrists and psychologists, the team will be serving residents until next Friday.
Transnet said the train "represents its commitment to ensuring healthcare reaches every corner of South Africa, especially underserved communities".
The mobile clinic has been providing free and low-cost medical services across South Africa since 1994 and will continue to visit communities like Tembisa to keep healthcare on the move.
