JOHANNESBURG - South African canoeist Hamish Lovemore has once again made waves on the international stage, clinching his third silver medal in just two weeks at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships.
Team South Africa sent three athletes to the World Championships, showcasing depth across the sprint canoe disciplines.
On Sunday, Lovemore powered through the challenging distance in a time of 21:13.36, finishing behind Denmark’s Mads Pedersen, who claimed gold, while Hungary’s Adam Varga completed the podium with bronze.

This marks the 24-year-old’s third silver medal in just two weeks after securing two podium finishes at the World Games in Chengdu, China, contributing to South Africa’s overall haul of three medals at that event.
Alongside Lovemore, Esti Olivier competed in the Women’s K1 200m and 500m events, advancing to the Final B in the shorter distance. Henry van der Walt also represented South Africa in the Men’s K1 200m and 500m races, delivering solid performances in highly competitive fields.
South Africa will host the ICF Ocean Racing World Championships in Durban in October.
