CAPE TOWN - Peter de Villiers' lawyers said that at this stage, there's no plan to take any further steps following his acquittal on sexual assault charges.
On Thursday, the former Bok coach succeeded in having the charges against him dropped.
His section 174 application was heard in the Vredenburg Magistrate's Court two weeks ago and on Thursday, the court delivered its decision.
The charges stem from a complaint filed while De Villiers was a part of the GOOD Party caucus in Vredenburg in 2024. He pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted sexual assault, sexual assault and crimen injuria.
His lawyer, Hendrik le Roux said they would study the court judgment.
"We will, at some stage, study the case, record and the judgment and decide what route Mr De Villiers will take in future in regard to this case but at this stage, there's no plans of continuing of anything further, but obviously his rights remain reserved in this regard."
Le Roux said while De Villiers was relieved, he was a bit sad after proceedings concluded.
"He lost a lot in the process because he in this time, he also lost two family members who were close to him, his wife and his daughter, and he was fighting his battle on his own."
