JOHANNESBURG - After four weeks of contending with dry taps, frustrated Coronationville residents are desperately raising the alarm, saying they are being denied a basic human right.

Some community members who staged a protest on the busy main road on Monday said they have had to rely on water tankers provided by Johannesburg Water.

Many of the residents have complained that the water from tankers is usually dirty.

Residents in Coronationville said they have not had a consistent supply of water for almost a decade now.

Community member Shantel da Gama said this makes their day-to-day activities difficult to fulfil.

She added that schools and old-age homes in the area were negatively affected by the ongoing outages.

"We have two old-age villages where there's old people. So when they send in the trucks, when they send in water trucks, they expect one truck to come and service the whole area, which will stand at the corner. How does that elderly person, we have people in our area, 90 years old, over 90. We actually have one of the aunties that is 103 years old in our community."

Meanwhile, Johannesburg Water said they were working on restoring water in the area.
