CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is calling on pupils not to disrupt schooling while matrics prepare for exams.

The call comes after major disruptions occurred at Vista High School in Bo-Kaap on Tuesday morning.

The department detailed that pupils damaged a newly installed fence in the frenzy.

The department’s Bronagh Hammond said that communication had been sent to parents regarding pupil behaviour.

"Their actions caused unnecessary disruption to teaching and learning at a time when Grade 12 learners are also writing their trial examinations ahead of their National Senior Certificate examinations, which are to be held next month."
