JOHANNESBURG - Ekurhuleni mayor Doctor Xhakaza remains confident he'll complete his term in office, despite the city's coalition government continuing to face difficulties.
Xhakaza, who is an African National Congress (ANC) councillor, was voted into the position by his party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and several others.
But relations between the ANC and EFF have soured, with the red berets previously staging a protest in council chambers over service delivery failures.

Despite this, Xhakaza maintains the coalition is holding firm.
"With the political and administrative leadership now fully aligned, the risk of paralysis or the premature removal of a mayor has been firmly addressed. This newfound stability is the bedrock upon which we can now build with confidence."
