Group marches to Parliament to demand recognition of their right to land

CAPE TOWN - A group of around 150 people marched through the streets of the Cape Town CBD on Thursday afternoon to demand recognition of their rights to land.
The group included members of the Khoi and San communities, as well as those in support of their cause.

The demonstration was part of a national movement calling for the acknowledgement of the first nation's heritage and claims.
The marching group made their way from Hanover Street, through the streets of Cape Town’s CBD, and stopped at the gates of Parliament.
Many were dressed in traditional Khoisan attire, blowing horns and burning dried herbs.

Several police officers were on site, keeping an eye on the crowd.
The group representing the Khoi and San communities said they believed they should govern themselves and declared that no government had the power to deny their sovereignty.
They handed over a memorandum of their declarations and demands to a government official.
