JOHANNESBURG - Floyd Shivambu’s Mayibuye consultation process has officially transitioned to a political party.
It will now be known as the Afrika Mayibuye Movement and will contest in the upcoming local government elections.
Earlier this year, Shivambu announced he had established a consultation process to look into whether there is a need for a new political party in South Africa.

As part of the process, Shivambu and his team consulted many traditional leaders, civic organisations and members of the public throughout the country.
At a media briefing on Friday, Shivambu said the feedback from the people was that they should create a new political party.
"I have the honour on behalf of our foremothers and forefathers, on behalf of the people of South Africa, on behalf of the current and future generation and by the grace of the almighty God, announce the formation of Africa Mayibuye Movement as a political movement and political party."
