CAPE TOWN - Cape Town police are still searching for gunmen involved in three alleged gang shootings in Athlone.

A suspected gang member was shot and killed inside the Athlone Magistrate's Court premises on Friday.

The man was expected to appear at the same court as an accused when he was attacked by unknown gunmen who fled the scene, leaving their firearms behind.

Moments later, not far from the court, a man and a woman were wounded in separate shootings.

The Democratic Alliance (DA)'s Noko Masipa said that daily gun violence could not be an accepted reality of Capetonians on the Cape Flats.

"Our communities deserve safety and justice, and we cannot allow ongoing failures of the national SAPS to keep costing lives. The DA will not accept that living in fear and bearing loved ones becomes the daily reality for our people."
