JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg has ramped up its efforts to disconnect all illegal connection of water and electricity.
In the Joburg Water’s media briefing on Friday the MMC of environment and infrastructure Jack Sekwaila reiterated the need to clamp down on land grabs to decrease the high rates of illegal connectivity.
Sekwaila added that the loses they face from this challenge make it difficult for them to reinvest in the city.
"Now, having agreed that our money and energy must go to replacement, but also must go to investment in terms of the new reservoirs, the towers across the city, including pump stations across. Not only there's a need in Crosby system, but I'm saying there's also a need about that particular investment we have done in Crosby, also in the part of Soweto towards protect land as if you're now going towards the western end there. The development there is huge, it's ongoing," said Sekwaila.
