CAPE TOWN - The evidence leader in Parliament's ad hoc committee probing police malfeasance says it can only engage with KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi after next week.
Advocate Norman Arendse, who was confirmed as the evidence leader on Friday, said that the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry was further down the road and already speaking to Mkhwanazi.
Arendse was addressing the ad hoc committee on Friday during a progress report on the preparations for the hearings.

The ad hoc committee reaffirmed its decision for Mkhwanazi to appear as the first witness in September.
Arendse said he'd already engaged with the evidence leaders of the Madlanga Commission, who have already started getting sworn statements.
He said that Parliament's inquiry could only speak to Mkhwanazi after the commission.
"They are already a long way down the road in terms of consulting him and taking a sworn statement, which they are hoping to complete this week. So, in any event, we will only be able to consult with General Mkhwanazi once they've finalised their consultations with him."
Arendse said that the evidence leaders of the two separate inquiries had agreed to share information if necessary, but they won't be bound by what they say.
