uMgeni municipality hails extra charges against traditional leader in double murder case

8 September 2025 | 13:24The state has linked the firearm used in the 2022 case to the murder of Ndlovu-Ntombela.
The uMgeni Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the additional charges in the case of the traditional leader accused of killing party councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu.
Ndlovu was shot and killed in December 2023 in front of his wife and children.
The man accused of killing him, Inkosi Simphiwe Eric Zuma, has also been charged with the murder of Xolani Polite Ndlovu-Ntombela, who was shot and killed in the Emasosheni area of Howick in November 2022.

“It is concerning, but at the same time, having understood the person we’re dealing with at the moment and the things that are coming out of this, it is not surprising, we’ve known he is involved in a number of murders,” uMgeni Deputy Mayor Sandile Mnikathi said
Regarding bail for the Inkosi in the Ndlovu case, Mnikathi added: “We’d like for him not to get bail; we don’t believe that it is in the interest of justice.”
