CAPE TOWN - Protests in Stanford led to the closure of the R43 on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Stanford Association for Tourism and Business, residents were angry about businesses hiring more foreign nationals than locals.
Police have since been able to disperse the crowd after rocks were thrown at them and their vehicles.
No arrests have been made, and police have opened a case of public violence.
Chairperson of the Stanford Association for Tourism and Business, Jami Kastner, said a meeting was currently underway to address these issues.
"People are upset that foreign nationals are taking South African jobs. General disgruntlement, but this is specific to Stanford, yes. But everything's calm for now and there's negotiations underway with the mayor here and the municipal manager negotiating with the community."
