JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng traffic police have arrested 43 motorists for reckless and negligent driving on provincial freeways this week.
The suspects, aged between 21 and 44, were caught speeding between 148 and 188 kilometres per hour on the N1, N4 and R21.
Among them was a 37-year-old BMW driver nabbed on the N4 near Emalahleni after clocking 188 km/h.
Gauteng traffic police spokesperson, Sello Maremane, warned that lawlessness would not be tolerated.
"This is a stern warning that no form of lawlessness will be tolerated in our province. Over speeding remains one of the leading causes of road fatalities and for this reason, law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts daily to promote road safety and enforce the law unconditionally."
