CAPE TOWN - A recent Global Initiative Against Transnational Organised Crime (GI-TOC) report shows Namibia is a source of guns for gangs in the Western Cape.
Earlier this year, Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile said police seized more than 90 firearms that were traced back to Namibia.
The organised crime report, which was released in September, confirmed Patekile's statement.

Senior analyst at the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organised Crime, Aron Hyman, said the flow of guns from Namibia was minuscule compared to the amount of illegal firearms already in South Africa.
Hyman said the guns from Namibia, which were seized in the Western Cape, came from police and the military, and included pistols and AK-47s.
"There have also been arrests in Namibia related to the theft of 16 Namibian military firearms that were allegedly destined for gangs in the Western Cape."
Hyman said the gun smuggling route between South Africa and Namibia, being run by two South African trucking companies, was still operating.
