While frustrated residents west of Joburg have been promised full restoration of water access by Thursday, the city’s water utility says its main systems remain heavily constrained.
The areas most affected by the strain include Westbury, Coronationville and Westdene, among others.
Last Thursday, Mayor Dada Morero promised residents that taps would be flowing again in seven days, after months of interruptions.
Joburg Water said that reservoirs supplied by its main water system were still either critically low or rising slowly.
This comes after the utility closed off supply in other areas to build up the levels, however, residents say the intervention is futile.
Westbury resident, Bianca Oliver, said the water tankers deployed to the area were not enough.
"They are still sending one water truck. Joburg Water had a meeting with the councillor concerning affected areas, so tomorrow will be the meeting with the mayor, so we will see what happens."
Morero will appear before Parliament on Friday to explain his plans for the city’s water crisis.
