The Western Cape Mobility Department says no incidents have been reported so far on day 2 of the taxi route shutdown in the Helderberg.

Route closures between Mfuleni and Khayelitsha to Somerset West have been put in place for 30 days to curb recent taxi-related violence.

At least 10 operators and commuters have been shot dead or injured in attacks linked to a dispute over these routes between taxi associations CATA and CODETA.

On Wednesday, six minibus taxis were impounded for illegally operating on the closed routes.

Provincial Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku said the routes were relatively calm on Thursday.

"We have increased the capacity of alternative transport, Golden Arrow Buses in particular. The deployment of law enforcement agencies remains in place as we continue to monitor the enforcement of measures. My door remains open for dialogue with the two affected associations to resolve this impasse and reach sustainable resolution."
