JMPD officers arrest three, kill one robbery suspect in Florida

A robbery suspect has been gunned down during a shootout with Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) in Florida, Roodepoort.

JMPD officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at a local business on Saturday, when four suspects opened fire on them.

Officers returned fire, fatally wounding one suspect, while three others were arrested at the scene.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said two unlicensed firearms were also recovered.

The three suspects have been arrested and detained at the Florida South African Police Service (SAPS) on charges of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms. The JMPD commends the swift and decisive action of officers which led to the successful arrest of the suspects and the recovery of dangerous firearms.
