Zille ready to start knocking on doors and campaigning

The DA's newly-revealed mayoral candidate for Johannesburg Helen Zille said that she believes she’s been preparing her entire life to lead the city.

Zille was unveiled as the DA’s candidate at the Eyethu Shopping Centre in Soweto on Saturday.

The politician, who was born and raised in Johannesburg said that she is ready to lead the city back to its former glory. 

Since the turn of democracy Zille has been based in Cape Town.

She led the mother city as mayor for three years before going on to become the premier, a position she held for a decade between 2009 and 2019.

At her unveiling Zille said that she never forgot about her home city.

"I am deeply indebted to the Democratic Alliance for entrusting me with this enormous responsibility. I believe my whole life and every previous job has been preparing me for this.” With the local government elections just a little over a year away.

Zille said that she’s ready to start knocking on doors and campaigning.
