The Independent Financial Advisors Forum (IFAF) has raised concern over what it calls an unlawful and irregular medical aid broker tender process by the City of Tshwane.
The forum said the city is violating workers' rights by continuing with its plans to appoint a single medical aid broker for its employees.
In a statement released on Sunday, the forum said members of a medical aid scheme have the right to choose their own broker and that an employer cannot impose one on its staff.
IFAF spokesperson Njabulo Majola said they have warned the metro that going ahead with the move could undermine all efforts of transformation.
“It seems evident that the city is determined to impose this broker, and one has to wonder if the city is doing this for the benefit of the brokerage firm that is to be appointed. These are valid questions to ask, given that we are witnessing a deliberate attempt to undermine due process. If the city proceeds with the tender, this will be in gross violation of the inherent rights of the employees of the city who are members of medical aid schemes.”
