National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola claims that the decision to issue an instruction to disband the political killings task team was an encroachment on his powers by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Masemola is testifying at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, sitting at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria.
Masemola said Mchunu could have suggested the disbandment of the task team and initiated a conversation with himself and KZN police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, around his reasoning thereafter.
But he said he abused his powers by issuing the instruction without consulting them.
"To go further to say disband, and then after disband you go further to say now, now, now, not even tomorrow, I think that is totally enchroachment into the mandate of the national commissioner in terms of the performance of my duty."
