KZN COGTA Dept welcomes sentence handed to man who killed ex-Richmond municipal manager

The Cooperative Governance Department in KwaZulu-Natal has said that the life sentence handed down to the man convicted of the murder of the former Richmond municipal manager brings justice for his family.
Sabelo Phewa was sentenced in the Pietermaritzburg High Court for the murder of Sibusiso Sithole, which occurred in 2017. He was also sentenced to another life term for the murder of Amos Ngcobo.

In addition to the murder convictions, Phewa was handed a 20-year sentence for attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm, and ammunition.
The department has welcomed the judgment.
Spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila said: "The MEC Buthelezi has welcomed the conviction and sentencing, stating that the sentencing of Mr Phewa brings a measure of justice to the families of Mr Sithole and Mr Ngcobo, and to the people of Richmond."
The MEC also praised the work of the police investigators assigned to the case.
"The MEC further commended the sterling work of the SAPS political killings task team, whose meticulous investigation led to the breakthrough in the case," Mzila added.
