If you haven’t taken advantage of National Parks Week, you have until Friday to do so.

The campaign allows South African citizens free access to some parks around the country.

In the Western Cape, there are six parks that you can visit for free.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging South Africans to explore their natural heritage and foster a sense of ownership.

SANParks' head of communications, JP Louw, said the free entry applied to day visitors only and excluded accommodation and other activities within the parks.

"The thing I should emphasise is that it is free access from today until Friday in all of the parks, but also selected few of them, Tankwa in particular & Bontebok, would extend until up to the Sunday as well, and this is really a standing principle across all of the national parks."
