Musician and cultural custodian Mbuso Khoza has described the Amahubo Symphony concert as pivotal for restoring and celebrating tradition.
The cultural and musical experience debuted at Constitution Hill on Sunday, where Khoza and iJadu Le Afrika performed alongside a four-piece band featuring 8 horns and six drums.
Khoza said the concert is a cultural awakening.
"This is a project that seeks to safeguard all the periodised music from the fallen kings from uNdaba to uShaka. This show is really like a prayer for the nation."
Singer Anella Ngwenya said it is also about understanding the country’s rich history and taking lessons from it for the future.
"The culture and history from back then, we look at that, where did they go wrong, did they go wrong, and then we bring it forward to help us in our current situations, what can we use to mitigate in our lives, and propelling and channelling and storing things for future generations."
