The Department of Basic Education has said that matric results will be released on the 12th of January next year.
The Department's Terence Khalaa added that President Ramaphosa will be informed of the results and pass rate before the results are released.
Matric examination marking starts next week Monday and will run until the 18th of December.
Over 50,000 of the basic education sector's top markers have been selected for the process.
"We have seen the first phases of early marking, which is concluded across the provinces of the Western Cape, Gauteng, as well as Mpumalanga. I think we've seen a variety of ways in which the system's rigor has been tested, but once more, the system has definitely shown its strength, and the preparedness that we do from the beginning of the year really does show itself in a moment like this," said Khalaa.
Khalaa added that criminal activity and instances of gang-violence threatened examination processes in the Western Cape.
He said however, that NSC candidates were still accommodated and were able to complete their exams.
"What this does, it underscores the integrity of the NSC, just ensure that all candidates remain supported and accommodated."
