The Tshwane Human Settlements Department says it has not abandoned plans to formalise the Marry Me informal settlement in Soshanguve but has warned that not all residents will be accommodated in the new housing.

As part of the formalisation process, authorities plan to crack down on undocumented migrants and address illegal water and electricity connections, along with other service delivery issues.

Feasibility studies have been completed, but a town planner has yet to be appointed.

The City’s MMC for Human Settlements, Aaron Maluleka, said the area can accommodate only 1,500 households.

He added that some residents may need to be relocated.

“People who do not qualify will be removed from the area, and those who have previously benefitted will also be relocated,” Maluleka said.
