Khumalo claims the Big Five is powerful, having allegedly infiltrated police and the political landscape.

Criminally accused underworld figures Katiso 'KT' Molefe and Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matalala are but two figures who form part of the 'Big Five' criminal syndicate in Gauteng.

Khumalo revealed to the Madlanga Commission that the 'Big Five' are a sophisticated criminal network involved in drug trafficking, hijackings, kidnappings, assassinations and tender fraud.

Commission chair Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga probed Khumalo on whether he would speak on other cartels.

"Is there evidence of other cartels other than just the Big Five? Are we going to be getting any evidence? Do you know?"

Khumalo suggested he wouldn’t divulge information regarding others.

"For the purpose of the commission and my affidavit, the only reference will be made to this Big Five cartel."
