Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) said that anyone headed to the Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) would benefit from heightened security measures in a high-crime zone on the N2 highway.
ACSA's acting regional general manager, Thabo Phatheng, was speaking at the launch of the deployment of 44 police and traffic officers near Borcherds Quarry.

The area is where a vehicle was hit by a concrete block in July, injuring a woman when glass shards hit her face.
Additional metro police and traffic officers will now patrol the section between the airport and Somerset West.
Phatheng said officers would also be stationed inside the airport.
"We will have a lot of travellers this festive season to and from the airport. Therefore, you want to ensure the safety of those people because they use public roads to get to the airport. Also, the misbehaviour on these public roads can also happen at the airport, as well."
The City of Cape Town said every month it received at least 500 reports of incidents on its highways, including attacks on motorists and pedestrians.
