Minority Governing Parties (MGP) in Johannesburg have written to Mayor Dada Morero, instructing him to dismiss the MMC for community development, Tebogo Nkonkou.
They accuse Nkonkou of evading accountability and under-performing in his portfolio.
The MGP is a coalition of ten smaller parties that form part of the African National Congress (ANC)-led government in the city of Johannesburg.
The grouping recently held a two-day Lekgotla, where concerns were also raised about the single seat it currently holds in the mayoral committee.
Deputy secretary of the MGP, Lubabalo Magwentshu, said that they have resolved to recall Nkonkou and replace him with Thapelo Amad from Al Jama-ah.
"The MMC of community development is evading accountability by not attending meetings where he is expected to account. For an example, out of about 58 swimming pools only 36 swimming pools have been opened and we don’t know the reason why. Our facilities in the city are in a state of disrepair and we don’t know what he is doing about that; he is not giving us any report to that effect.”
