Hundreds of units of alcohol have been confiscated on Cape Town beaches during valedictory celebrations.
Scores of matriculants recently celebrated their valedictories and matric balls as the third term of the 2025 academic year drew to a close.
Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said that officers seized almost 800 units of liquor.
"The amount of alcohol confiscated is of concern, particularly as we highlighted time and again that it is illegal to consume alcohol in public spaces, but also the potential consequences of driving or swimming under the influence. Fortunately, there were no major incidents reported during the valedictory celebrations."
The National Senior Certificate exams begin on Tuesday, 21 October and run until 26 November.
