An Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) investigation into a deadly incident involving three children and a SAPS vehicle in Delft continues.
Over the weekend, three police officers were driving a marked police vehicle, attending to a complaint of a murder in progress.
The driver of the police vehicle then allegedly swerved to avoid a taxi coming from the opposite direction and drove into a Wendy house and three children who were playing next to it.
An 11-year-old girl died at the scene and two other children, both aged 10, were taken to hospital.
IPID's Phaladi Shuping said that they are probing a case of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.
"IPID confirms an investigation into an incident where a police vehicle allegedly drove into three children in Delft, in the Western Cape, on Saturday. It is alleged that the driver of the police vehicle was trying to avoid an incoming taxi but he unfortunately drove into the three children."
Shuping said that it is alleged that community members attacked the police members and set their bakkie alight, following the crash.
