Residents at an informal settlement in downtown Johannesburg say they are worried about being evicted.
Metro police are searching people’s homes on Wednesday morning at the Homestead informal settlement.
Earlier this year, the city conducted a clean-up operation with a plan of evicting the occupants.
But it emerged that officials didn’t have alternative accommodation for the residents as required by law.
One resident said they were worried: "There are so many people here, there are JMPD members, the city park rangers, home affairs as well. If they kick us out, we have nowhere to go, we will be homeless."
