Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya, feels hard done by the manner in which heavily armed operatives entered his home in Centurion on Thursday afternoon.

Some 50 members attached to the National Intervention Unit, Special Task Force, and Crime Intelligence acted on a search and seizure warrant, barging into Sibiya’s home.

Sibiya claims the warrant was in relation to an ongoing case against him, related to defeating the ends of justice, money laundering, and corruption.

Several cellphones and a laptop were confiscated by the team, with Sibiya admitting he was under the impression he was going to be arrested.

Sibiya said he has been under surveillance since he was suspended as Deputy National Police Commissioner.

He addressed the media outside his family home in Centurionfollowing the search and seizure operation by the South African Police Service.

“We are under siege here, there are helicopters, there is surveillance left, right and centre, this is an abuse of power. Yesterday [Wednesday], there was a black X3 there, and then as you come out, you will see there’s a car this side and a car that side. This is what I have to live with.”

Sibiya said he feels betrayed by police management but insists he will not back down.

“I wish my colleagues could think of my kids, my family. They haven’t done anything wrong to be traumatised like this. I know they are trying to push me out. I won’t resign; they must fire me.”

Sibiya will appear before Parliament’s ad hoc committee on Monday.
