Community leaders from Westbury and Coronationville in Johannesburg are meeting with Joburg Water officials on Thursday for an update on solutions to their ongoing water problems.
The meeting follows recent street protests by residents from the areas, who called for a permanent solution to persistent water woes.
Last month, the City of Johannesburg announced planned intervention measures, including the construction of a new pipeline from the nearby Crosby Reservoir to increase supply to the communities.
Community leaders of Westbury and Coronationville are en route to meet Joburg Water officials after complaining that the supply has not improved despite the implemented intervention measures. The construction of the new pipeline is expected to be complete this weekend.
Resident Sainy van Zyl says that before Joburg Water came to address the community last month, they experienced a complete water outage.
While the utility's efforts have introduced some intermittent supply, the problem remains.
"Sometime in the middle of the day it will go slow, but then late afternoon the water is on strong again, and during the night the water will go off again," Van Zyl said.
