Denel to respond to activists' call to stop supplying Israel

Dozens of pro-Palestine supporters gathered outside Rheinmetall Denel Munition factory on Friday, calling on government to suspend export permits for weapons being exported to Israel.
The activists also called on Rheinmetall Denel Munition to align its operations with South Africa’s Constitution and end its supply of weapons to Israel.
Macassar Activist Forum (AMF) spokesperson Desmond Stevens said a memorandum of demands was handed over to the arms manufacturer.

"We cannot remain silent while weapons made in our backyard contribute to the destruction of innocent lives in Gaza."
Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) organiser Usuf Chikte echoed the forum's call.
"From the gates of Rheinmetall Denel Munition in somerset west to the rubble of Gaza, one message rings out. Stop arming the genocidal state of Israel, as we call for a complete arms embargo on the apartheid Israeli state."
Rheinmetall Denel Munition has indicated it will respond to the MAF and PSC’s demands.
