Madlanga Commission adjourns to allow for submissions regarding in-camera proceedings

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has adjourned for the day to allow submissions to be made regarding in-camera proceedings.

This as two media houses applied to oppose an order sought for an in-camera hearing.

The commission would not divulge who the next witness set to testify is, only revealing that evidence leaders would make an application to hear their testimony behind closed doors.

Papers between an attorney representing News24 and Daily Maverick and evidence leaders of the commission need to be filed with Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga and his co-commissioners by 9pm this evening.

On Monday, Charl du Plessis, representing the two media outlets, appeared before the commission, indicating his intention to oppose a submission by the evidence leaders to take the next witness's testimony in camera.

EWN understands the next witness is either a member of the Gauteng Counterintelligence Operations or the KZN political killings task team.

Madlanga Commission evidence leaders, advocates Matthew Chaskalson and Adila Hassim, will have to respond, by way of written affidavits, to Du Plessis' application.

The commission will resume on Tuesday, where Madlanga is expected to provide a ruling on both submissions and determine whether he wants oral submissions made before the commission thereafter.
