WC cops hellbent on cracking down on crime ahead of festive season

The Western Cape’s Safer Festive Season Operations are in motion, with gender-based violence (GBV), extortion, and road safety identified as some focal points.
The operations launched in Khayelitsha on Wednesday will run until January next year.
Khayelitsha is one of the areas with a high crime rate, including murder and extortion.
The police top brass said high-density operations and police visibility will be heightened during this year’s festive season.
The Deputy National Police Commissioner, Tebello Mosikili, has given Western Cape police strict instructions to ensure the safety of residents and visitors as the summer holidays approach.
Officers will be deployed to crack down on violent crime,s including extortion, kidnapping, robberies, and GBV.
Mosikili said they're more than ready to police the streets of the Western Cape this holiday season.
"I must say it's not only the Western Cape that we are focusing on, that is why you see us here today. We have four hotspot provinces in the country that we are focusing on."
Mosikili is also urging residents to work together with the police.
