The Western Cape government is planning to roll out 350 additional internet access sites soon as part of its broadband 2.0 initiative to rural and informal settlement areas.
Government sites, which have not yet been connected through the broadband initiative, will be prioritised to have access to high-speed internet.
The list includes schools, health facilities, and libraries and will also improve connectivity for the public through Wi-Fi hotspots.
The provincial government said its focus now is on broadening access to deep rural areas and improve the footprint.
Premier Alan Winde said a map of all the sites is available on the Western Cape government Wi-Fi page.
"You can go onto the map, and you can exactly see where those wi-fi hotspots are. For example, if you zoom in to Beaufort West, you'll see there are 25 Wi-Fi hotspots in Beaufort West. In Khayelitsha, at the moment, there must at least be 35, so you can actually zoom in, and you can go right into that ward and see if there's a Wi-Fi hotspot within that ward."
